Turtle Nesting:

Eastern Long Neck turtles like this one mate in the spring, and the gestation period for the eggs is about 6 weeks. The eggs hatch about 65 days later if incubated at 30 degrees C, or after about 120 days if left in the ground.

The turtle has found a suitable site above the water line, and starts to dig a chamber using her rear feet alternately. Once dug and moistened with her pee, she deposits the eggs, one by one.

When all eggs are laid, she'll fill the hole in, again using her rear feet.

Finally she'll lift her body up with her rear feet and drop her plastron on the ground to compact it, then head back to the water.
